The Phonological Investigation of Old English: Illustrated by a Series of Fifty Problems

This is a short work on Anglo-Saxon phonology ("a systematic account of [a language's] speech-sounds, their mutual relations, and the modifications to which they are subject"), using "fifty of the principal nouns and verbs found in a single paragraph ... under the year 894 of the English Chronicle". This is intended for students of Old English, and uses comparative phonology, to German and other Germanic languages, modern and extinct.  Will also be of etymological interest, given the detail provided about the origin of the 50 chosen words and their cognate relations in other languages. Includes a short bibliography (of works now in the public domain).
