Theodor Fontane Bibliographie: Werk und Forschung

The complete literature by and about Theodor Fontane during the period 1839 – 2004 is documented for the first time in this three-volume bibliography. Fulfilling a long-standing wish of researchers, it is an indispensable reference work for those active in Fontane research and German literary studies. It draws the great writer’s profile as a novelist and journalist into far sharper relief, and for the first time documents his widely published complete works in their entirety.
All told, 14,000 individual titles are listed, around 5,500 from the primary literature and around 8,500 from the secondary literature. The research was based on the collection of books, journals and newspaper clippings at the Potsdam-based Fontane Archiv whose holdings have been systematically expanded.
